You’ve been feeling fatigue at work and, besides consuming copious amounts of caffeine, you’re fresh out of other solutions. Some signs just don’t lie: you may need a detox cure

But what exactly does “detox” mean?

In winter, our body, because of a richer diet and less activity, accumulates toxins like a dirty engine. A detox program will help it to get back into gear smoothly by draining it of waste and excesses.

Do I need a detox cure?

Quiz time! Mark your answers for the following questions. If you get at least 3 “yes” answers, then t’s time to seriously plan a detox program:

  • Are you tired?
  • Are you stressed?
  • Do you regularly use any of the following products: alcohol, cigarettes, sweets, sugary drinks like pop and fruit juices?
  • Do you consume little fish, fruit and vegetables?
  • Have you stopped exercising?
  • Do you have difficulty concentrating?
  • Are you regularly bloated?

.

How do you get started with detox program?

First off, to finally start putting your body to rest and stop exhausting it, plan to eliminate sugar in all its forms.

Gradually reduce meals 2 to 3 days before the program so as not to create a shock for the body. Consume fruits and vegetables in large quantities but avoid meat and limit the intake of dairy products.

It is necessary, above all, to drink about 2 litres of water per day to replenish the body and take advantage of its natural minerals. Naturally, alcohol and fruit juices are not allowed, but vegetable juices are fair game.

Favour the “detox” foods: garlic, artichoke, avocado, beetroot, black radish, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cinnamon, turmeric, spinach and other leafy vegetables such as watercress and chicory. You can also drink a thyme-and-rosemary infusion.

What about fasting?

  • Fasting is the best-known cure but one that requires much care and balance. If poorly conducted, a fast can significantly weaken you. However, when it’s well-executed, a fast can be an incredible source of renewal. Make sure to have a dietician on call.
  • The mono-diet is easier. When on the mono-diet, the same food is eaten all day. The the program lasts 6 days. True to its name, you choose a healthy food such as rice, fruits and vegetables, which make up the three meals.
  • A vegetarian diet: it excludes all animal products such as meat and fish and consists only of vegetables, starches, fruits and is filled with eggs every other day.

And One Last Thing…

If you’re detoxing your body, why not clean up other places of your life? Commit yourself to “detoxing” from various other “pollutants” such as noise, tobacco, TV and mobiles.

This can also be activities like vacuuming the house, sitting in silent meditation or reading. Learn to make a regular “digital detox”, a kind of “pause” on objects that leave you overly-connected and demanding of your time.
